The Life Aquatic on the Shannon-Erne Blueway

An inspirational mix of canoeing, walking and cycling in some of Ireland’s most idyllic scenery...

If you’re looking to switch off, slow down or recharge, the Shannon-Erne Blueway is the perfect destination. Get set to experience a stunning 70km-long mix of canal, river and lake with a series of newly developed paddling trails. Fantastic scenic walking and cycling routes that run either along the water or loop into the magnificent surrounding countryside complement these on-water trails.

Along the way you’ll discover lively towns and villages serving up delicious food, traditional pubs and a warm and welcoming atmosphere. From Leitrim Village up to Crom and Belturbet, travelling along the Blueway feels like an escape into a peaceful otherworld, as you paddle velvety waters, stroll canal-side trails fringed with pale reeds, and cycle across the sheep-speckled countryside.

A break here is as exhilarating or relaxing as you make it, with stand-up paddle-boarding, kayaking and even surfing on the water; not to mention great restaurants, old castles and subterranean caves on land.  Paddle, pedal or walk – the great thing about the Blueway is that you can do it your own way.
