The Leitrim Design House
This gem of a craft gallery is stocked with hand-made items by over 250 local and national craft workers. The Leitrim Design House is recommended by the Craft Council of Ireland as a leading craft and design outlet in the country.
Many pieces on sale are inspired by Leitrim's natural beauty or are specially designed for the gallery. Textiles, fine art, ceramics, glass, prints, metal, wood, jewellery, paper and cards are beautifully displayed in this lovely 19th-century Courthouse building overlooking the Shannon. It is a showcase for beauty, design and creativity.
The staff of the Design House can also advise you on the various local artists who can complete a commission piece if you want something unique. Occasional art exhibits are hosted on the Art Wall while the Dock art centre and gallery hosts a range of exhibitions and performances throughout the year.
While in the area why not stroll through the waterside town of Carrick on Shannon, in addition to its streets lined with shops and cafes, a farmers market on Thursday mornings and the smallest chapel in Ireland. There is also a riverside boardwalk and an opportunity for a pleasure cruise along the Shannon on 'Moon River' or if you want to be more active there are quad, canoe and bike hire opportunities nearby.
